Wow! How did another year fly by already??? I still can't believe that it's 2016. Never would I have guessed that I would still be designing, drawing, and creating things that better this world with my own two hands. In 2015 I helped create things like seeing my first full iOS app design become a reality in the Apple App Store (created at Crow's Nest Digital) FitnessTracker+
, branding, illustrations, interior design, menu design, and other printed and digital pieces for the launch of a new restaurant in Thornton Park, Downtown Orlando – Baoery Asian Gastropub – and even got my hands working on projects like branding for my good friend Will Mikkelson's audio engineering company and designing packaging for a vinyl record, CD, and even a cassette tape for the super talented band Gungor!
Through all of this, never in a million years would I have guessed that I would fall so much in love with typography, hand lettering, and illustration last year and have it be the main thing I want to focus on in 2016.
When I was in design school (way back when) Typography class was fun, yet one of the more boring classes for me. We learned all about the characteristics of a letterform... hah, what a bore. But now, I can't get enough! Hand lettering has become a love and true passion of mine. As an artist, I have come to really appreciate something that is hand-made, and hand-made lettering is no exception of something extraordinary.
This idea for me of hand lettering being an extraordinary thing really took off and I found myself drawing type more and more. It has really lit a fire in me and the flame burns on! I've had the opportunity to incorporate my illustration and young hand lettering skills into various projects – personal, freelance, and even some at my day job as a Web/Graphic Designer – that have really sparked that fire this past year.
