WeCompete is a friendly competition based iOS app that I branded and designed while working at a startup as an Art Director & Lead Product Designer. This was our second fitness app (after FitnessTracker+) and was much larger than the previous, which required a full strategy, design, development, and marketing team to complete.
With a brand new app comes, well, a brand new brand. I was tasked to create a unique, yet recognizable and familiar brand that would really speak to the WeCompete's users. The only problem at this point was that we didn't know what WeCompete was going to be exactly. We just knew it had to be a fun, unique, and competitive experience.
To do so, like any other branding project, I started off with brainstorming sessions, word maps, and sketching out logo concepts which led to a plethora of vector logos:
Once the branding was established, I moved on to sketching and wireframing out the app design. This process was long an tedeous, but had to be so the outcome would be a super user-friendly and engaging app. The transitions between screens and user interactions needed to be as simple and pleasing as possible to support the app's concept of fun competition.
Like anything else used by humans in this world, it had to be familiar to the competitor, yet new enough to keep them coming back for more.

After getting a lot of feedback from users in person, online, and over video sessions, I was able to make as many edits and iterations as needed to get the prototype to where it's at now. This set me up well to jump head first into the Hi-Fi stage and make the design look and feel as good as the prototype worked.
